Frequently asked questions

What happens in the assessment session?

I understand that taking that first step to seek support via counselling, is a big step. This session is an introduction, and a chance for you to outline what has led you to seek counselling at this time. It is also an opportunity for me to explain what I can offer and cover aspects such as, my approach, cost, confidentiality, duration of sessions and my cancellation policy. I believe that it is only upon meeting with a counsellor, that you can truly get an understanding if you will feel happy and assured enough to work with that therapist. It is also an opportunity for me to determine if I am the right counsellor for you. If I feel that another service or counsellor would be a better suit for you, I will endeavour to sign post you to the right person or service. The initial assessment session is 45 minutes long and is £20

What is your cancellation policy?

Life is busy and plans change, so if a planned session needs to be cancelled, I do ask that at least 48 hours’ notice is given. Cancellations can be made via phone or email. There is no charge for sessions missed with a 48 hour notice period. Cancellations within a 48 hour time frame will be charged 50% of the session fee at the next planned session, as the session would not be able to filled by another client.

Will counselling help me?

Having the time and space within counselling to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe and confidential environment is often the first step in making positive change in someone’s life. Our problems can sometimes feel too big or heavy to carry ourselves. Often it’s hard to pinpoint what’s actually wrong, but that low mood, or anxious knot just won’t go away. Counselling will help you understand your behaviours and emotions that little bit better and give you insight into why you may be finding things difficult. With this understanding, it is often the catalyst for positive change leading to a more balanced and healthy future.

Do you offer any discounts to fees?

Yes, I offer a limited number of reduced rate sessions of £30 to students and low-income clients. If all the reduced rate slots are full, then I can place you on a waiting list until a spot becomes available. Please ask me about my reduced rate availability.

Are the sessions confidential?

Yes, everything we discuss is strictly confidential. However, there are a number of exceptions to this confidentiality rule as follows:
- if a client discloses risk of serious harm to themselves or others
- if I am required to do so by a court of law
- to prevent or help in the detection of serious crime
My notes and client contact information are stored in locked cabinets and any information held regarding my clients does not have a name attributed to it.
